What issues are burning in your hearts?
I'll start it off with good old Freedom of Speech. We already have this, and of course it's used all the time. In our information age we have the power to post our thoughts (and our dinner pics) at will. Does this create a problem? Are we watering down our right to free speech? Do we have a responsibility to fully analyze an issue before slapping down a few witty lines or uploading a smartypants meme? What are your thoughts, 8th Graders?

I'm really looking forward to the social justice essays. I've been concerned lately as my generation has failed to solve all the world's problems thus far, and we are rapidly aging and becoming set in our ways, so it may be unlikely that we will accomplish this monumental task. Our previous generation, the baby boomers, certainly made their mark. Sure, after the Civil Rights Act and bringing chaos to the streets regarding the war in Vietnam until we pulled out, they've nestled into a coma while the yuppies took over. Now the yuppies are masuppies (middle aged suburban professionals), and they're quite comfortable, thank you. So my students, blame my generation if you will (we did bring the internet, video games, and 900 channels of reality TV to your fingertips, and now you barely need to socialize at all), but it's your turn. I dare you to make some profound changes! I double dog dare you! And please, please, please, post your goals on Facebook or whatever, so that we can look back in 20 years or so to see if you actually followed through with all of your lofty plans. I hope you do. Geez, for all of our sakes, I hope you do.
